Levering Hall roof replacement project
We are excited to begin construction on the Levering Hall Roof replacement project. This critical infrastructure upgrade is needed to protect this landmark building on the JHU Homewood campus. After coordination with various JHU stakeholders and planning with the contractor, the work plan is as follows:
- Typical daily work hours will be Monday-Friday, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- The work is phased into four designated areas, as noted on the logistics plan below. Starting on roof 1 and moving in numerical sequence.
- Prior to work commencing, perimeter barriers will be established, signage installed, and scaffolding erected to promote safety for all JHU affiliates and contractors.
This work is typically disruptive and will consist of the following activities:
- Deliveries of scaffolding and roofing materials. These are coordinated with JHU dining services.
- Material handling noise as we erect the scaffolding around the building.
- Roofing work will include intermittent demolition related to removing existing roofs. This will be followed by construction noise that may peak at times but will not be entirely consistent throughout the day.
- Potential running of air compressors and generators throughout the project, combined with the use of pneumatic and gas impact tools.
- Wood on wood material handling as we work on the roof substrate.
- Beeping and back-up alarms from delivery trucks are to be expected.
While no roadway or walkway closures are required, a detour will be set up around the loading area next to Levering Hall to discourage pedestrian traffic through the active work zone. The area will remain open for deliveries, and dumpsters will be relocated to maintain access for waste management services.
No entrances or exits to Levering Hall will be closed during the work.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we complete these important improvements. Please use caution around the work area and follow posted signage.
