Bloomberg steam pipe replacement
As part of the ongoing Bloomberg Steam Pipe Replacement project, we are replacing steam pipes that service the Bloomberg Building via the North Plant. The new steam line will be fed from the Athletic Center/Rec Center, ensuring long-term reliability and service continuity. This is a critical infrastructure upgrade that supports the university’s energy and utility systems.
Phase I
We are currently working on the first phase of the project, which will bring the new steam lines from the Athletic Center’s basement across the roof of the Athletic Center and the Rec Center. This phase is approximately 75% complete.
Phase 2
The second phase will consist of tying into the new roof pipes and continuing the new steam lines underground, from the rear of the Rec Center over to the North Plant. This phase is scheduled to begin once Convocation is complete. From then through the end of the year, the rear of the Rec Center, the practice field, and the Bloomberg Physics building will need to be accessed from the East side of the Rec Center, using the pathways between the Rec Center and the Bascom Undergraduate Teaching Labs building. We will have the new steam lines energized, and the area will be back to normal by the end of January.
Crane Activity Schedule
To support this work, a crane will be staged behind the Newton White Athletic Center to deliver materials to the Rec Center roof.
