Vice President, Capital and Construction
Jimmy Patel brings more than 25 years of diverse leadership experience integrating program and project management, engineering, construction, environmental, real estate, and financial operations into cohesive, high-performing organizations. His career spans federal, state, and local government, university-affiliated research institutions, and private industry, where he has successfully delivered complex capital and infrastructure programs.
He currently serves as Vice President of Capital and Construction, providing strategic leadership and oversight for the university’s multi-billion dollar capital program, guiding planning, design, and construction efforts across its campuses.
Prior to this role, Patel served as Chief of Planning, Design, and Construction at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), where he led a $3 billion capital program supporting advanced research and national security missions. Before joining APL in 2018, he held senior leadership positions with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District, managing large-scale facilities ad infrastructure programs for the U.S. intelligence Community.
Patel holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, A Master of Science in Environmental Engineering from Johns Hopkins University, and a Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Production Engineering. He is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and Design-Build Professional (DBIA).
He currently serves as President of the Maryland/DC Chapter of the Construction Owners Association of America (COAA) and as President of the Board of Directors of the Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center.
